Since its inception, Kapul Champions has played a vital role in advancing HIV prevention, promoting sexual and reproductive health rights, and combating stigma, discrimination, and homophobia in PNG. We work to ensure that MSM and other key populations have equitable access to health services, accurate information, and legal protections.
“Building strength, one champion at a time.
Kapul Champions is a national movement led by men of diverse sexualities and transgender people across Papua New Guinea. Grounded in lived experience, the group empowers its members to become advocates for equality, health, and human rights through peer education, legal literacy, and community-driven outreach. By creating safe spaces for dialogue and learning, Kapul Champions supports individuals to speak up, organise, and take action against stigma, discrimination, and violence.
At the heart of their work is a commitment to inclusion and dignity. Whether it’s advocating for access to HIV and sexual health services, challenging harmful laws, or supporting peers through crisis, Kapul Champions leads with compassion and strength. Their work is part of a broader effort to ensure that every person—regardless of sexuality, gender identity, or background—can live free from fear and with full access to care, support, and justice.
By building leadership from within the community, Kapul Champions is helping to shift mindsets, influence policy, and pave the way for a more equal and respectful Papua New Guinea.
