At the PNG Christian Leaders Alliance Workshop on HIV Response on 20 May 2026, Mr Wep Kanawi, Chair of the National AIDS Council, called on churches and national partners to move from concern to coordinated action, reminding participants that “one voice, with no action, means nothing gets done.” He urged partners to rebuild HIV counselling capacity, train more counsellors, restore provincial support systems, mobilise volunteers, and formalise partnerships with churches through practical arrangements such as MOUs.
Commending the KPAC team for demonstrating how HIV testing is done, he said churches have trusted leaders, health services, local networks, and community presence that can help reach people affected by HIV. His message was clear: “Many voices together can get things done,” and PNG’s HIV response will be stronger when churches, communities, government, and partners put their heads together and act as one team.
